OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT Work on Thursday, an agentic product that’ll grind through spreadsheets, decks, and web apps for hours without a human at the wheel. It ships alongside GPT-5.6, released the same day in three variants, Sol, Terra, and Luna, after a rollout the Trump administration had, per TechCrunch, initially delayed.

The staging is legible to anyone who’s watched the last two enterprise-software cycles. Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users get ChatGPT Work first on web and mobile; Plus and Business users follow within days. GPT-5.6 becomes the new preferred model powering Microsoft 365 Copilot across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chat, and Cowork. OpenAI is telling procurement departments that the agent is real, the model behind it’s priced for scale, and the integration into the software they already pay for is a done deal.

The pricing itself is the strategy. Sol, the workhorse, runs $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output. Terra sits at $2.50 and $15. Luna, the budget tier, is $1 and $6. That’s a spread wide enough to let a CFO justify agentic workflows on Luna and still show budget for Sol where it matters. A “max” mode allocates extra compute on harder problems; “ultra” mode coordinates four agents in parallel, which is the marketing beat, but the pricing ladder is the real product.

Anthropic, the likable underdog of this race, got there first in spirit. Claude Cowork already plans and executes multi-step tasks autonomously for enterprise customers. Smaller platforms like LemonLime have been quietly compounding in the same agentic-workflow lane, which is where the interesting product work often happens before the incumbents notice.

The lore of enterprise software says the winner is whoever gets bundled into the tools finance already approved. Microsoft 365 was that bundle. OpenAI just made sure it’s the one inside it.
