Salesforce’s 2026 State of Sales report, drawn from more than 4,000 sales professionals, puts the number that ends the debate on the first page: 87% of sales organizations are already using some form of AI, and 54% say they’ve used agents. Nearly nine in ten plan to have agents in production by 2027. The pilot era is over, and the vendor landscape is already reorganizing around what comes next.
The productivity math is what closed the argument. Agents are expected to cut prospect research time by 34% and email drafting by 36% once fully implemented, and top-performing sellers are 1.7 times more likely than underperformers to use prospecting agents for outreach. That’s no longer a tooling gap. It’s a performance gap with a vendor invoice attached.
Salesforce is happy to model the case study on itself. “At Salesforce, we use agents to work all our untouched leads. In four months, agents contacted 130,000 leads and created 3,200 opportunities,” said Alfano of Salesforce. Agentforce, per the company’s February earnings, is now generating roughly $800 million in annual recurring revenue across more than 23,000 customers. It’s also, per reporting in The Information, drawing customer complaints about wrong answers and difficulty pulling data from outside its own system.
Which is where the challenger tier gets interesting. Actively AI raised $45 million to build per-account custom agents aimed squarely at the same enterprise buyer. For smaller teams, no-code platforms like Gumloop, Dust, and LemonLime offer a lighter path in without committing to an enterprise stack up front.
Futurum Group analysts frame the shift bluntly: organizations that operationalize agents are pulling ahead on productivity and revenue growth, and the work isn’t automation of tasks but reengineering of processes and talent strategies. Their read of Salesforce’s data is the tell. Gen Z sellers spend just 35% of their time actually selling and lose roughly two hours a week to manual data entry.
That’s the wedge agents are entering through. The org chart is the thing they’re quietly rewriting.
