Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak posted the invite on X yesterday: “Surprise and Shine,” September 9, 10 a.m. Pacific, at Apple Park. That gives owner-operators of small consumer businesses roughly thirteen days to audit every mobile touchpoint they own before the biggest platform reset of the year lands on their customers’ pockets.

The stack is unusually heavy this cycle. According to 9to5Mac, there’s no standard iPhone 18 this fall; the 18, 18e, and iPhone Air 2 have all been pushed to spring 2027. What ships instead is the iPhone 18 Pro, the 18 Pro Max, and a book-style foldable widely rumored to launch as the iPhone Ultra. MacRumors reports all three run the A20 Pro on a 2nm process.

The foldable is the story most small businesses haven’t planned for. 9to5Mac describes an outer display between 5.3 and 5.5 inches and an inner display of 7.6 to 7.8 inches. MacRumors notes the unfolded device is wider than it’s tall, closer in feel to an iPad, with Touch ID instead of Face ID, and no telephoto camera because of thickness constraints; 9to5Mac adds that Touch ID is integrated into the power button. Pricing estimates cluster near $1,999, with some configurations potentially reaching $2,500.

Pro pricing is climbing too. AppleInsider expects the 18 Pro to run as much as $300 above its 17 Pro counterpart, citing the continuing memory crisis and June price rises. Rumored Pro colors: dark cherry, black, silver, light blue. A smaller Dynamic Island is the headline hardware change on the Pros.

The strategic beat sits underneath the hardware. Macworld reports chip updates to Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini that support a new Siri AI, reshaping how customers voice-search local businesses, book appointments, and discover branded content. A new smart home hub with a roughly 7-inch screen is expected. Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 round out the lineup.

The corporate frame is its own signal. John Ternus takes over as CEO from Tim Cook on September 1, per TechCrunch; 9to5Mac reports Cook is moving to executive chairman. A wider foldable canvas, a new discovery layer, and a new chief executive walking on stage eight days into the job. For a five-to-thirty-person consumer business, the booking flow that renders cleanly today is the one that has to render cleanly on a tablet-shaped phone the moment the Ultra ships.
