On September 4, OpenAI opens Ads Manager as a self-serve product, and the daily minimum drops to ₹725 (about $7.60). As of today, August 29, small businesses have six days to decide whether ChatGPT belongs in their acquisition mix.

The prior gate was $50,000. Quartz reports OpenAI already scrapped that floor for U.S. self-serve access; the Sept. 4 launch finishes the job by putting a live Ads Manager behind it. That’s a two-order-of-magnitude cut in the price of entry, and it lands on a surface the incumbents don’t have: users mid-decision, typing questions rather than scrolling.

The scale isn’t theoretical. ChatGPT hit 330 million unique monthly users in May 2026, up from 297 million in December 2025. India alone accounted for more than 100 million weekly active users by February. Ads are already live in 38 countries, 31 of them European, and this week the managed program went live for India’s Free and Go tiers with 50 launch brands including WPP and Omnicom. Go costs ₹399 per month; everyone else on Free sees ads by default. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education remain ad-free.

Why the hurry inside OpenAI is worth naming. Q2 2026 revenue hit $6.7 billion against $5.7 billion in Q1, with operating losses of $12.3 billion and $9.3 billion in those same quarters per the Wall Street Journal. The annualized run rate is above $40 billion, the valuation sits at $852 billion, and a 2027 IPO is on the calendar. The company is targeting $2.5 billion in ad revenue this year against a $1.18 trillion global market where online ads are more than 75% of spend and in-app alone is $400 billion.

Ujjwal Chaudhry of Analysys Mason has framed India as central to that push. OpenAI’s own framing is more careful. “ads will be clearly labeled, visually separate and shown below the response,” the company told CNBC, adding that “answer independence is non-negotiable.” Dave Dugan, OpenAI’s head of global ads solutions, put the pitch this way: “With ChatGPT Ads, businesses of every size can introduce themselves at relevant, high-context moments when decisions are beginning to take shape.”

For a five-to-thirty-person business, that’s the actual question: is a conversational placement the right shape for your offer, and what creative fits below an answer rather than inside a feed? Six days isn’t much runway to answer it cold. Services like LemonLime exist to run that evaluation continuously in the background and prepare the outreach and creative before the window closes, rather than adding another research project to the week. Every prior ad platform’s first six months rewarded the businesses that showed up before the auction filled. This one has a published start date.
