iOS 27 is expected to ship to compatible iPhones on Monday, September 14, following Apple’s September 9 launch event, and its most consequential feature for anyone running a storefront isn’t a new emoji. It’s Visual Intelligence, the Camera app’s Siri mode that lets a customer point their phone at your signage, your menu, or a business card and get hours, reviews, booking links, and contact details back in seconds.

The addressable surface is enormous from day one. iOS 27 supports every iPhone back to the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE 2, meaning the update rolls to hundreds of millions of devices as a free over-the-air download. Apple’s on-device performance claims (apps launching up to 30% faster, Photos captures appearing up to 70% faster, AirDrop up to 80% quicker) are matched by Macworld’s own testing on an iPhone 11 Pro Max: Camera launch fell from 0.98 seconds on iOS 26 to 0.65 seconds; Maps, from 3.01 seconds to 1.36. A faster camera is the whole point when the camera is the search bar.

The Siri layer underneath it’s what Apple, in its June 8 WWDC announcement, called “profoundly more capable,” drawing on Mail, Messages, Notes, Calendar, and the open web. Full Siri AI requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later; custom Siri voices need the A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air. Launch markets are the eight English-speaking ones. The EU and China wait on regulatory clearance under frameworks including the Digital Markets Act.

For a founder-led shop, the strategic read is simple. Discovery is quietly migrating from typed intent to ambient visual scanning, and whatever Visual Intelligence surfaces about your business is whatever your Google Business Profile, website structured data, and online menu currently say. Wrong hours become invisibility. A missing booking link becomes a competitor’s booking.

Apple has been staging this shift for a year; the September 9 event, previewed here, is where the staging ends. Six days is enough time to audit a listing. It’s not enough time to build one from scratch.
