Apple confirmed at its fall event today that iOS 27 ships Monday, September 14, carrying Siri AI into every qualifying iPhone in the country. Founder-led restaurants, salons, gyms, and retail shops have five days before the voice assistant on their customers’ phones stops returning a page of blue links and starts naming, out loud, one to three specific businesses.
The release notes describe “a more capable and conversational version of Siri” that helps users “find what you need and get more done, drawing on capabilities like personal context understanding, app actions, onscreen awareness, and access to broad world knowledge.” Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, previewed it at WWDC in June as “a profoundly more intelligent, knowledgeable, and capable Siri.” Apple says Siri AI can “answer questions related to the content on a user’s screen, draw on personal context understanding to search across apps, and go out to the web to get up-to-date information using broad world knowledge and generate a helpful answer.” Engadget, in its own testing, reported that “the assistant was actually capable of answering complex questions and carrying out multi-step prompts.”
The structural shift for local commerce sits underneath the marketing copy. Siri AI is being wired directly into Spotlight, into a new System Orchestrator that routes Apple Intelligence requests, and into Visual Intelligence inside the Camera app. When a user asks for a lunch spot nearby, the answer is synthesized from Apple Maps, Apple Business Connect listings, reviews, and web content. That’s the same pipeline that gives you “directions to a restaurant you booked” or lets Call Context “proactively surface relevant information from across your apps, like a confirmation code or a reservation number.” Enhanced Flyover in Apple Maps, which “combines aerial imagery with AI,” rounds out the local layer.
The eligibility floor is narrow: 2023’s iPhone 15 Pro and newer, iPads on M1 or later. Roughly three and a half generations qualify. English only at launch, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish following in October; no EU or China rollout yet. Engadget also reported that Apple partnered with Google to use Gemini models in training the algorithms behind Siri AI.
Local businesses that haven’t audited their Apple Business Connect listing, NAP consistency, and review recency won’t be picked. We covered what Siri’s new answer format means for local vendor choice yesterday and how Visual Intelligence is quietly rewiring how customers find storefronts last week.
Five days. The shortlist is being compiled now.
