Meta launched Muse for Small Business on September 29, extending its AI agent to small business owners already running on Facebook and Instagram. The free tier arrives wired into Instagram professional analytics, Facebook Pages, and Meta ad accounts natively, plus fifteen named third-party connectors: Asana, Box, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Granola, HighLevel, Intuit QuickBooks, Klaviyo, Lovable, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe, and Zoom. A paid tier handles heavier use.
The scale claim is the real announcement. Meta president and vice chairman Dina Powell McCormick told CNBC the platform already carries 200 million small business owners, and the pitch is that Muse will now “hustle and work for them every day.” Vishal Shah, Meta’s VP of AI products, told Axios roughly one-third of early Muse users had already been connecting it to some kind of business account before small shops were the stated audience. Demand, in other words, was running ahead of positioning.
The timing is deliberate. One day earlier, on September 28, Meta introduced Meta Enterprise Platform, led by former MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai, aimed at corporate buyers. Small Business and Enterprise shipped as a matched pair, bracketing the market from both ends in a single news cycle. That’s narrative management as product strategy.
The release also fits a sequence. In the last two weeks Muse began making outbound calls on behalf of businesses, gained a Shopify checkout integration, and pushed onto Mac desktop. Phone, checkout, desktop, back-office. The surface area is being filled in weekly.
Owners should hold two things in mind at once. Handing Muse an ad account, a Shopify store, and a Klaviyo list collapses an agency’s worth of setup into a prompt; it also hands Meta a legible map of operations it previously only inferred from ad spend. Agents misread context. The honest Q4 test isn’t whether Muse drafts a holiday campaign. It’s whether it drafts one the owner wouldn’t have run, and whether that campaign brings in customers who weren’t already coming.
