Apple on Tuesday announced HomeView, a $299 countertop or wall-mounted 7-inch screen running a conversational Siri AI, with U.S. availability on November 13 and Singapore pre-orders opening October 15 at 9 a.m. SGT. It’s the first major hardware launch under CEO John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook at the start of September.
The spec sheet reads like Apple trying to catch Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub in a single leap: a Liquid Retina display at 1088 by 1088 pixels and 220 ppi, 500 nits down to 0.3 nits, an A18 chip, four beamforming microphones, and a 12-megapixel f/2.4 Center Stage camera that recognizes up to six people by face. Wall mounts come from Schneider Electric’s Schneider Home division: a $59.95 Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector, a $79.95 AC Wired version, and a Power over Ethernet option at $129.95 shipping in early 2027. The wall-mounted model is space gray and silver only. HomeView software 27.2 is where Siri AI launches in English; paired iPhones and iPads need iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2.
“Apple HomeView is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user,” Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in the announcement. A new Apple Home Collection of cameras, thermostats, and a smart lock begins shipping in December, with LG Electronics as a partner. The EU, as usual, gets its own regulatory timeline.
The business logic is legible. Apple’s Wearables, Home, and Accessories segment did $7.88 billion last June quarter, roughly 7% of total revenue, and has been the quiet underperformer in a portfolio otherwise dominated by iPhone, Apple Watch, Vision Pro, Apple TV, and HomePod.
“Apple always waits for an ecosystem to develop first until they are positive they can provide a stellar user experience,” Jennifer Kent, principal analyst at Parks Associates, told CNBC.
What’s actually new isn’t the screen. It’s that Siri, newly conversational, now sits on a kitchen counter answering open-ended questions, surfacing local businesses through Apple Maps, and reading context from a household’s calendars and apps. Apple’s installed base just gained a new discovery surface. Ternus didn’t inherit a smart-home strategy. He inherited a distribution channel.
