Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event lands Wednesday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, and John Ternus will host it as CEO for the first time, with Tim Cook, now executive chairman after 15 years running the company, in the room. The hardware story writes itself. The story that actually matters for small B2C owners is the software update that follows a few days later.

That update is iOS 27, expected Monday, September 14, after a beta cycle that began at WWDC in June and reached beta 8 on August 31. It carries two features that quietly rebuild how customers find local businesses on an iPhone: Siri AI and Visual Intelligence.

Siri AI is a generative overhaul in the shape of ChatGPT or Claude, powered by Apple Foundation models that MacRumors reports were developed in collaboration with Google using technologies behind Gemini, with Private Cloud Compute now extending onto Google Cloud running NVIDIA hardware. A dedicated Siri app syncs conversation history across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. A rebuilt Spotlight index lets it reach into Mail, Messages, Notes, Reminders, Calendar, and Photos. Ask it for a coffee shop nearby that does oat milk lattes and it answers without a search page in the middle.

Visual Intelligence is the other half. A new Siri Mode in the Camera app replaces Camera Control as the way in; point the lens at a storefront, business card, or membership offer and it pulls information and actions, including adds to Wallet. Maps gets sharper Flyover imagery rendered by the same models.

For a founder-led B2C, this is a new discovery surface running on hundreds of millions of phones, and it rewards the boring work: clean local listings, structured business data, App Store metadata, App Intents. Owners who wait until after September 14 will be tuning for a signal that’s already routing traffic elsewhere. The iPhone 18 Pro pricing shock, TrendForce pegs it at $1,249 to $1,299 against $1,099 last cycle, and $1,349 to $1,399 for the Pro Max against $1,199, a $150 to $200 jump attributed largely to a nearly 400% year-on-year rise in 256GB memory chip costs and a roughly 38% bill-of-materials increase, is the headline. The Visual Intelligence shift in local discovery is the one that pays or costs you next week.
