For any B2C storefront that still treats discovery as a Google problem, the clock is already loud.

The mechanic is the part small businesses keep missing. Siri AI, per Macworld’s preview, fuses personal context, onscreen awareness, and live web knowledge to deliver conversational answers, app actions, and cross-device chat history. Ask it for a bakery for a birthday cake and it won’t return ten blue links. It’ll pick one. That’s the shift from search to answer, and it applies retroactively to every iPhone back to the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE, with a dedicated Siri app and Siri Camera mode riding alongside.

The performance story sells the upgrade to consumers. Apple says apps launch up to 30% faster, new photos appear in the library up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers move up to 80% quicker under iOS 27. Adoption won’t be slow. The hardware headline will be price. TrendForce expects the iPhone 18 Pro to start at $1,249–$1,299 and the Pro Max at $1,349–$1,399, up from $1,099 and $1,199 on the iPhone 17 Pro line, a $150–$200 jump driven by a nearly 400% year-on-year rise in the cost of a 256GB memory chip and a roughly 38% lift in the Pro’s bill of materials. Preorders are expected September 12, retail September 18. John Ternus, hosting his first keynote as CEO after Tim Cook’s 15 years in the role, inherits both the pricing conversation and the $150–$200 sticker shock landing at every B2C checkout counter.

Macworld notes early testing shows “server failures, incorrect answers, weak reasoning and unexplained limitations,” and Siri AI won’t initially ship in the EU or China. The launch will be uneven. The structural change won’t wait for it to be clean.
