On September 15, Sequoia and Kleiner Perkins co-led a $180 million Series D into Profound at a $1.8 billion valuation, less than seven months after the two-year-old New York startup (corporate name Cooper Square Technologies Inc.) closed a $96 million Series C. Total raised since 2024 now tops $335 million. Lightspeed, Khosla, Saga, Evantic, and South Park Commons all followed on. Revenue tripled in the past six months.
Profound sells one thing: visibility inside AI answer engines. When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews who to hire or what to buy, Profound helps brands land in the two or three names the model returns. More than 1,000 enterprise customers already pay for that, including Walmart, Comcast, Estée Lauder, Campari Group, Royal Bank of Canada, Zoom, ServiceNow, Ramp, Cursor, MongoDB, and Figma. Roughly a third of the Fortune 100 sits on the platform, on top of a corpus of more than 2 billion real user prompts.
“Profound started as an analytics platform for marketers to understand how buyers discover their brands through AI. Today, they’re using our Agents to research, write, and report,” said co-founder and CEO James Cadwallader. Kleiner’s Ilya Fushman called AI “a primary interface for search and discovery.” Sequoia’s Anas Biad was blunter: “the speed of enterprise adoption speaks for itself.”
Read the round for what it’s: a top-tier venture bet that the discovery layer has already moved. Ten blue links become three named brands. If you aren’t one of the three, you don’t exist for that buyer.
This is the same behavioral shift already visible in social overtaking search for small-business discovery, in Google’s new AI-search report card, and in HubSpot’s platform-wide agent rewiring. Enterprises are hiring Profound. Founder-led businesses don’t have that budget, and they also don’t have a marketing team to run the structured, regularly refreshed content that AI systems actually cite. That’s the gap LemonLime is built to close: it studies the company, competitors, and industry, then prepares the publishing work proactively, without asking the owner to learn another dashboard.
The enterprises just bought their seat at the AI front door. The question for everyone else is whether they realize there’s one.
