Meta rolled out Your Algorithm on Facebook on October 13, 2026, giving every user a plain-English intake box that reshapes what Feed and Reels will show them, in the same session they type into it. Meta describes it as “a dedicated space to tell us exactly what you’re into,” accessed through the three-dot menu on every post. Large language models now sit alongside the thousands of engagement signals Facebook already tracks, so a typed sentence can tilt a session’s recommendations within that same session.
The feature isn’t a surprise so much as a completed migration. Meta first shipped it on Instagram, with Reels in December 2025, Explore in April 2026, and a global Feed-Reels-Explore rollout in English on June 10, 2026. Threads got its own version, Dear Algo, in February. TechCrunch frames the Facebook arrival as the platform catching up with streaming-style personalization and shifting away from purely inferred recommendations.
For small businesses, that shift reorders the organic reach job entirely. The old game was accumulating passive engagement until the model decided your post was interesting. The new game is matching the exact phrases a target customer would type into their own algorithm box: “sustainable home goods,” “local coffee roasters,” “indie bookshops in Brooklyn.”
A vague brand post that could’ve ridden passive signals a year ago now sits outside the stated-interest lane entirely. A specific category post, written in the same vocabulary a customer would use to describe what they want more of, gets pulled upward by that customer’s own hand.
It’s the third Meta move in six weeks that quietly rewrites small-business distribution. Threads became its own ad surface earlier this month, and Meta also shipped a business AI agent built on its relationship graph. Taken together, Meta’s platforms are migrating from inferred intent to declared intent. The audience is telling the algorithm what it wants. Posts that don’t speak that language will be seen less.
