Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” keynote lands Wednesday, September 9, at 10 a.m. PT at Apple Park, and the product being shipped underneath the iPhone Ultra and foldable spectacle is the one that reorganizes local discovery: a rebuilt Siri, running on Apple Intelligence and new on-device Foundation Models via Private Cloud Compute, distilled in collaboration with Google from Gemini but not a rebadge of it. That’s the piece that matters for the corner salon, the taqueria, the two-person contractor.

The scale is the story. Apple sits on roughly 2.5 billion active devices worldwide, per TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez, and the new Siri surfaces across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, CarPlay, AirPods, and Vision Pro. Public beta has been open to everyday users since July 14. iOS 27, announced at WWDC in June and reportedly addressing over 250 pain points, will hit devices shortly after the keynote.

For a founder-run local business, this is a new default. Voice and text queries that used to route through Google will increasingly resolve inside Siri, Spotlight, and Apple Maps. Macworld flagged the Phone app “surfacing relevant info when calling a person or business” as one example of what Siri will now quietly do on its own.

The prep list is unglamorous and finite. Claim and update the Apple Maps listing. Make the website crawlable, with clean structured data. Keep reviews fresh. Businesses that have done this will exist to Siri on day one. Businesses that haven’t will be, functionally, invisible on a discovery surface with billions of endpoints. Earlier coverage of this window is worth revisiting: Siri AI goes live in days and what it means for how customers find you, three days before Surprise and Shine, and iOS 27 drops in six days.

The keynote itself carries a subplot. It’s the first in 15 years not headlined by Tim Cook, who took the chairman role September 1 and, per Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, has “officially and completely handed the reins to Ternus.” John Ternus, the new CEO, promised employees a “huge launch that’s going to be phenomenal.” Pre-orders open Saturday at midnight PT. Siri won’t wait for anyone’s website to be ready.
